is the Calgary Zoo to blame for a tiger giving birth without them knowing?

it seems kinda weird to NOT KNOW that one of yur animals is pregnant, but i’ve heard people defending the Calgary Zoo saying it’s sometimes hard to know.

The tiger is ten years old and a first time mom. That means the zoo thought that she may be infertile since that is a rather old age for a first time tiger mom. Besides, tigers have small cubs. Their belly does not bulge out like a pregnant cow’s.
