Help with A MAths Question!!!!?
1)Each packet of washing powder carries a token and four tokens can be exchanged for a free packet. How many free packets will i recieve if i buy 64 packets??
2)A group of friends share a bill for $13.69 equally between them. How many were in the group???

1) 16 initially. But those 16 will get you another 4, which will get you another one, so you’ll get a total of 21 free packets.
2) If you assume they’re only paying in whole cents, 37 friends paying 37 cents each. Otherwise it could be two friends paying $6.84 and one half cent, three paying $4.56 and one third, etc.
13.69 is 37 squared. 37 is a prime number. This is the only way you can get a unique answer. If the bill was, say, 14 cents, you couldn’t tell if it was two friends paying 7 cents, or 7 friends paying two cents. If it was 16 cents, 16 is 4 squared, but it could be 4 friends at 4 cents, or 2 friends at 8 cents, or 8 friends at 2 cents. While a bill of 25 cents can only be 5 friends at 5 cents, because it’s the square of a prime number.
