If i Downloaded Empire total war on steam, does that use the same memory and requirements as a store boughtone?

I downloaded Empire:total war from Steam, and it seems to be lagging on my computer, and freezing quit often. my computer has the proper requirements. i was wondering if i had bought a store bought version with the disk and everything, it would take up less memory on my computer and work better?

not in particular, it would be pretty much the same, did you try turning down the settings of the game, and turning up that of your video card.

also make sure you have the latest update for your video card and the latest direct x
