Why aren’t Environmentalists protesting the biggest polluter of all – Uncle Sam?
The single biggest polluter is the Military. However, they are hardly the only government agency to harm the environment. President Obama’s Stimulus Program is building more roads, which will only encourage more people to drive their pollution machines. Other government agencies that hurt the environment include the IRS and the Federal Reserve, both of which are notorious for their waste of paper. I have almost certainly forgot numerous other government programs that hurt the environment. Besides all of this, it was Uncle Sam who granted businesses the right to pollute on other peoples’ property in the first place (until about a century ago, it was illegal to pollute on another person’s property without their permission).
Shouldn’t Environmentalists be focusing on Uncle Sam’s pollution instead of going after small-time polluters?
Some are too busy building tree houses out of wood to protest the cutting down of trees for building materials. Some are too busy printing pamphlets on paper to encourage conservation of wood and water (both of which are used to make paper). Still others are too busy flying around in private jets to warn against carbon dioxide emissions.
In terms of total pollution, the top culprit very well might be the military. In per capita terms, however, you’ll be hard pressed to convince me that the prize doesn’t go to either the executive or legislative branch.
