On Club Penguin, does the series of the toy you buy matter on which treasure book you use it on?

I want something from the series 5 treasure book on club penguin, i know i need a coin code to get it. If i buy a series 2 puffle toy, will i only be able to use it on the series 2 treasure book? or will i be able to use it on any treasure book? Thanks, 10 points to the best, true answer!
