Trying To Make Do This Holiday Season

Whether you’re pushing for the holiday sales or you’re trying to find one of those seasonal birthday presents, it’s tough this year. You see all of these fantastic deals spread out across the medias, but the truth is that the sale items are often limited and only go to a few lucky customers. Everyone else has to pay full price. One way to combat this is to restrict your holiday budget and plan within it. If a gift pushes you too far, then it’s time to buy something else.

If you get a great deal on a black sport watch but you turn around and find that the GPS accessories on your list for your favorite techno fan push you over the limit, you don’t trade in the watch.

The same applies to the need to be ultimately fair to everyone. When you buy transformers for your child but you evaluate the way these packages make it seem like maybe they got more, you tend to want to buy so everything looks even. This type of competitive buying doesn’t usually work in one’s favor.

We don’t prove that we love everyone the same by making sure all of the holiday gifts match up. In fact, we can’t do anything more than apply guilt in order to make sure that all the gifts match up. When we measure our love through material things we tend to create a family dynamic that makes it very difficult to have a financially rough year. You could, instead, be enjoying each other rather than counting presents.

We give gifts during the holiday season as a token, not as a right. There are plenty of people who are struggling this year and need to ensure that they can give their families a little something. With misleading sales and a highly competitive holiday shopping crowd, it can be almost impossible to really end up with all that you want for as little as was promised.

Sometimes agreeing to spend less on each other, or limit gift buying within the family can relieve everyone’s sense of guilt over not being able to buy enough. This year maybe your family can get back to basics and spend some really good quality time together and have a great meal. Bringing it back to the most basic aspects of the holidays can be more meaningful than how much you can’t spend.

The seasonal difficulties that many families face this year are no doubt disappointing. But since we are all looking to save money, we can all focus a little harder on creating holidays around spending time together, loving one another, mending bridges, and sharing good food together.
