Souvenir Transit
Souvenirs from Germany – I’m clueless!?

I’m coming to the end of my two month stay in Germany and I still have no idea what to buy for gifts. I’ve got about 10 or 15 € left for prezzies for each of my sisters, maybe 20 or 25 € for mum, and about 5 € (maybe a little more, we’ll see) for each of my three best friends. I have some Didl Maus stuff already for them all.
What can I get them that is typically German? I can’t buy sausages, (wurst) because New Zealand has really strict Customs policies on food. I’m not sure about chocolate, because that’s not exactly a lasting souvenir. And when I asked my host sister what is typically German, she came up with ‘cuckoo clocks’. I’m sure my mum would love a cuckoo clock, (well, not totally sure), but they tend to be a bit on the expensive side, and if it got broken in transit, it would be terrible.
Help!
10 points!
Sadly, I’m not going anywhere near the Berlin Wall. And we already have Kinder Überraschung in New Zealand – ‘cept there they’re called Kinder Surprise.

Yap cuckoo clocks are really nice but expensive. If you pack it well and put it in cabin, it will be fine. Wurst is also delicious and typical from German. But maybe you can buy some instant spices (german food) that are packed in the supermarket.

5€ is ok for your friends, maybe you can buy some small souvenirs in the tourist information, get some postcards, cups, magnets, dolls, or many things. you can get something with “germany/deutschland” or the city name where you buy it, written on it.
Another choice is chocolate. I think it will be okay, you can put it in your luggage (although a bit heavy). There is a chocolate factory Lindt in Aachen where you can buy chocolate cheaply.

10-15€ maybe some shirts or german song CDs.
the city with lots of souvenirs are berlin and köln. I bought many there. But any city has tourist information. Each city has its own typical souvenirs. Köln – Dom (cathedral), Berlin – Berlin wall, etc..

20-25€ for your mom.. i hv no clue. what is your mom’s fav? if you hv no clue what to buy either, just buy something that she likes with “deutschland” written in it ;) . Hm high quality cooking knifes also made in germany.

If you dont hv enough time to buy those souvenirs, the last chance is in the airport. The duty free shops are sometimes cheaper, but mostly still a bit expensive (but not too expensive). I bought some chocolate in frankfurt flughafen.
I think it will also be ok if you buy the food at duty free shops. My friends bought also bier! As long as the packing is not opened, then it is okay till you arrive in New Zealand I think.

hv a nice stay, enjoy!
