Museum of Dabaotai Han Tomb – a lasting example of a burial chamber from the Han Dynasty

Located southern suburbs of Beijing the Museum of Dabaotai Han is located in the Dabaotai Village. The highlight of the tomb is that it the last of its kind from the Han Dynasty, of a king from the Yan Dynasty who died more than 2,000 years ago. The tomb was first discovered in the 70′s and it was found that it was made entirely out of cypress logs which were sealed with charcoal and gyspsum to protect it.
There is an anti-chamber which is furnished similar to a sitting room and the rulers coffin is said to have five out-chambers. The tomb is large, and more than 1,000 artifacts were discovered, although over the centuries the tomb was plundered on numerous occasions. Many of his personal belongings can be found, and it also rumored that live horses and his actual carriages were also buried alongside him. The culture of preparation for the afterlife is most evident when you visit this tomb.
