Silver Denarii

Silver Denarii
Need help converting BIble money?

I’m studying the life Judas this morning. Could someone help me convert:
1. The thirty pieces of silver into modern numbers.
2. While your at it, how about the 300 denarii which Judas wanted to sell the perfume for.

Thanks for your help. If you use a certain website, I would appreciate you telling me which one, so that I could bookmark it,

Thanks,
Pastor Phil

30 pieces of silver is around 120 denarii. It’s a little hard to convert to modern currency. Once source said 30 pieces of silver would equate to $220, while another said it was closer to $900. And who knows with the current state of the economy. The 30=120 denarii should be enough to form a good comparison. He sold Jesus for less than half of the perfume.

edit: sorry, didn’t notice you wanted a website :) I couldn’t find the other page for the current money conversions, but I did find this one. It says that 30 pieces of silver in terms of days of labour, then converts it that way. I think that’s probably a more fair comparison.

Interestingly, my dad looked in up in a commentary (which is where he got the 30=120 equivalent) and it mentioned that 30 pieces of silver was the accepted price for a slave, as mentioned elsewhere in the bible – I want to say zechariah 11.

Sorry I couldn’t find the original websites. Feel free to ignore those numbers. I guess they were based solely on the prices of silver in todays market or something?
