The Band Rush

Rush formed in late October of 1968, and consisted of a few line-ups before they settled with Neil Peart on drums in early 74. The members haven’t changed since that time (Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and Neil Peart) to this day, and they’re now even bigger than ever before.

One of the cornerstones of their sound and appeal is songs like Closer To The Heart, from their A Farewell To Kings Album from back in 1977.

This song became a firm, live favourite and ultimately got them some female fans!.

Among their shorter pieces is Closer To The Heart, nevertheless still displayed the bands multiple talents on their respective instruments. Lots of people cite this song, and possible 2112 that was their album before, as the turning point in the bands career.

They’ve continued to sell out massive venues around the world, but there seems to be no getting away from that one song, rather like Moving Pictures, Tom Sawyer, and Limelight, if it is not played, there is a minor riot.

Neil Peart is known as by most to be the best drummer in the world today, he’d disagree, but he certainly is among the most influential, and is always mentioned alongside the likes of Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, and possibly Bill Bruford.

Coming out top of the polls for best bassist is Geddy who also gets his fair share of the limelight (ha ha). The most underrated tends to be Alex Lifeson although his amazing work can be heard as the backbone of many a Rush track and the band would most definitely be lost without him.

While many of their contemporise are playing reunion tours and state fairs, Rush are at present on tour supporting their forthcoming release as well as performing Moving Pictures in its entirety the very first time ever. It seems Rush are as big as ever and for a little band from Toronto, are directly behind the Beatles and Rolling Stones in terms of gold records and sales.

Find out more on closer to the heart and singers of Rush including neil peart and why they are still one of the most popular bands around today.

The Who Sell Out (33 1/3)

$9.01

Released in the U.S. in January 1968, The Who Sell Out was, according to critic Dave Marsh, a complete backfire. . .the album sold well, but not spectacularly [and was] ultimately a nostalgic in-joke: Who but a pop intellectual could appreciate such a thing? Further rarifying its in-joke status was its unapologetic Englishness; 13 tracks stitched together in a mock pirate radio broadcast, without …
