Ford Must Be Totally Clueless!
Ford’s aim was to make an Eco friendly car in the Fiesta. It is a small vehicle that can fit up to 5 people and achieve astronomical fuel economy numbers. This is a grerat little car, the only problem is it won’t be available for sale in America.
Despite the Fiesta ECOnetic’s definite potential to compete with the other US manufactures, Ford will only sell the Fiesta in Europe. The President of Ford said that they could not sell the Fiesta in the US for “business reasons” whatever that means.
Ford is aprehensive about selling the car here in America, due to the public’s negative view on diesel fuel. We ger stateside still have the view that diesels are gross polluters according to Ford.
Diesel cars that are on the market today emit less pollution and get better fuel economy that regular gas powered cars. Ford has a car that gets over 60 miles per gallon, yet they won’t bring it to the US? Ford doesn’t think that North and South America would buy any diesel cars. The Fiesta diesel is equal to the best European diesels but probably would not sell good here in America; according to Ford.
Also, the Fiesta is made in England and bringing the car to America would be so costly that Ford believes thay would not make a profit.The main problem is will American’s ever see Diesel as an alternative to regular gas, enought so that car makers will make a profit on Diesel cars?Ford should do some competitor research and look to the success of the Volkswagen Jetta TDi. The Jetta costs about what the Fiesta would cost, gets only 41 MPG on the highway as compared to the Fiesta’s 65 MPG, and finally the Jetta has received numerous accolades for being an ultra green car.Ford could be sharing the lime light with the Jetta TDi, but they are not.
