Question about threats to our Navy?
Does anyone in the world have a Navy that can challenge ours? Who do you think we will be at war with next besides terrorists?
IF the US goes after Iran it will have a major problem on its hands… not directly from the Iranian navy of course, but from land and sea-based missiles sold by the Russians… supersonic, long range, extremely accurate and with powerful payloads… these could well make most of the Persian Gulf a prohibited zone for the US Navy.
The Chinese spend a lot less on their forces but they too are a major threat – there has been speculation that they have been exploiting technological back doors in US computer systems and that this lead to a Chinese sub emerging – without prior detection! – in the middle of a major US navy exercise recently.
So, yes… but don’t let that make you paranoid – the only side initiating conflict is likely to be the USA… no one else would be so stupid as to declare war on the US… everyone else would use asymmetric approaches, which would turn existing US strengths into weaknesses.
