Debate Erupts Because Of Latest Medal Of Honor Video Game
The popular video game series “Medal of Honor” has become a target of derision because of the latest installment. Previous entries in the video gaming series took place in World War II. Though not new to video games as a whole, the new “Medal of Honor” is set in Afghanistan. In multi-player mode, gamers can be either coalition forces (United States of America, U.K., etc.) or the Taliban in “Medal of Honor 2010.” People are calling for a bar, such as the Minister of Defense for the UK.
Liam Fox is opposed to the game being sold
Liam Fox, the Defense Secretary (“defense” gets a “c” in British English) for the United Kingdom, has called for the game to be banned. He opposes the selling of the game by retailers, according to The Guardian, and doesn’t think anyone should buy it. The opposition to the game is because of the multiplayer mode. Players can choose to be either US or UK characters, or the Taliban. Others have joined in the protest against shooting at United States or U.K. forces, even if it is only in online gaming. Other games, such as those in the “Call of Duty” series took place in Iraq and Afghanistan. Seems like sadly like an inevitability that this would be in a video game.
Opinion worth provided through Electronic Arts
Electronic Arts makes the game, this being the first “Medal of Honor” not set in World War II. The PR Representative for EA said to AOL News that most individuals take opposing roles in play as children. Kids do play games like that. Cops face off against robbers, Indians confront cowboys, cowboys must face the truth that their quarterback is lousy, and within the multiplayer mode of “Medal of Honor”, “someone’s gotta be the Taliban.” Opponents also observe that Word War II is removed from modern history by a long time, and thus games in which individuals can be Nazis in multiplayer are less harmful as a result.
After all, it is still only a video game
Every video game controversy has two outcomes. Some people get offended, and the game sells lots of copies – the first “Mortal Kombat” and “Grand Theft Auto III,” for instance. Unfortunately, it appears that given the number of games taking place in the exact same current conflicts, that this exact circumstance was inevitable. The first “Medal of Honor,” which was partially created through Steven Spielberg, also featured multiplayer characters which were interesting. Players could unlock multiplayer characters such as William Shakespeare or a German Shepherd. They could also play as a Velociraptor from “Jurassic Park”. That’s right. Dinosaurs killing Nazis.
