Medal School

Medal School
Why would someone get a medal of honor in the Vietnam War?

I need a scenario for why a soldier would be awarded with a medal of honor in the Vietnam War. It’s for a school project. THX

It’s kind of a dumb question, but I’ll indulge. Let’s say you’re a Corporal squad leader in the USMC, in the middle of Viet Nam. Your being pinned down by enemy gunfire and are about to be overrun by foot soldiers. In the spirit of honor, and for the safety of your entire squad, you decide to take an M203 grenade launcher strapped to the underside of your M16-A1 assault rifle and charge the machine gun nest that’s laying down the most suppressing fire. You take out the nest, and in turn, allow your troops an avenue of escape, OR even a split second to return effective fire neutralizing the rest of the enemy foot soldiers. That is dumb, but a truly heroic act of bravery worthy of the Congressional Medal of Honor. You were willing to sacrifice your life so that the troops in your squad could live.

Good enough?
