Medal Ribbon

Medal Ribbon
In films, why do US servicemen always have lots and lots of medal ribbons?

In war films, and even current news footage, US servicemen appear to have acquired rows and rows of medal ribbons in contrast with British servicemen who are lucky to sport one or two rows.
Are the US military braver than other nationalities, or are medals, in the US, awarded for turning out on parade?

The Master Gunner is correct. The US military wears the entire CV on their rack of ribbons. I can tell if a person was an Army reservist mobilised for duty, or if an Army NCO has been to the appropriate education school required for his rank or the rank higher than he holds. For example, if you were to look at my rack, you could tell that I was enlisted before I commissioned. Such information must be asked of a typical European soldier.

You can argue that such information is not necessary to be worn, but as long as you understand that the majority of worn US awards are for service and achievement, not for valor in combat, and look at it in that perspective, it makes sense.
