Magadha India

People who are excellent at History?
So Alexander the great, did he really defeted Porus?
if , so , after defeating Porus, would he able to conquer whole India?
Because according to Wiki,
East of Porus’ kingdom, near the Ganges River, was the powerful Nanda Empire of Magadha and Gangaridai Empire of Bengal. Fearing the prospects of facing other powerful Indian armies and exhausted by years of campaigning, his army mutinied at the Hyphasis River, refusing to march further east.
Does that mean, Indian kings were strong enought to Defeat Alexadder the Great????
@ IRISH,
ahh, ca’mon, i also know that.
i am asking to ppl who knows history well, anyways thanks!
@ JOSEPT
DID I ASK THAT??????
IF YOU DON’T KNOW. THAN DON’T ANSWER!!!!!
Porus was definitely defeated by Alexander at the battle of Hydaspes (326 BC).Porus then became a client king, as is evident from the fact he was leading an army westwards to take part in the wars of the Diadochii when he was treacherously slain by the satrap Eudamos, who took over the army.Had these troops been part of an independent Indian army, it’s doubtful they would have continued their service under Eudamos.
You are correct in your belief that Alexander’s further march eastwards was halted mainly by the unwillingness of Alexander’s army to continue campaigning. However, as for the idea that Indian kings were strong enough to defeat Alexander, this is extremely doubtful.Over the next 2 centuries, a number of Greek generals established Greek kingdoms in India, some of which lasted well into the2nd century AD.As the Indians were able to defeat them, I find it unlikely they would have been able to defeat Alexander, a far superior general to these Greek adventurers, whose Macedonian army was also far superior to that of the Greeks.
Don’t trust Wiki on matters of history, it’s often inaccurate and therefore unreliable.
