Death Camp

Our Yearly Camping Trip Keeps Us Together
We’ve all stuck together since the year we graduated, in some form or another, even though we don’t see each other all the time. One of the ways we stay in touch is our annual camping trip up north. Every year on the second weekend of August we have the same spot reserved. I make sure my dreadnought acoustic guitar is stringed and ready to go and I hope in the van for the trip to meet my buddies.
We all have different ideas of what camping is, but that’s fine with me. One of us is head chef at some fancy LA restaurant. We give him some cash and he always shows up with the most amazing food. I could never imagine such divine foods were created cooking over a campfire, but he can do it, and we eat like kings. We’ll get up in the morning and he’s working on pancakes from scratch working with hand mixers and everything.
Susan also has a very different idea of camping. She rolls up in a compact RV, all set with all modern conveniences, a generator, and some hefty batteries to keep her powered. I’m pretty sure she gets satellite TV in that thing too! This thing is amazing, all set with her home decor accents to make it feel like she’s really at home.
So we’ll eat and drink and reminisce, and then go on our customary 15 mile hike. I used to be a lot better at that, but now not so much. It’s the high altitude that gets me, and probably the 30 or so pounds I’ve gained since we first started doing this thing 10 years ago.
It’s not an easy hike when you’re running on no sleep. Everyone has a case of insomnia with Dave around. His snoring keeps everyone up! I swear it was so bad the first year we were there we thought it was a bear trying to get our food!
Now our camping trips are more special since we lost of one of the gang. He was a great friend, but he sadly lost his life on a motorcycle in an accident on the highway. We miss him more than ever, but it feels like a good way to remember him as we sit around tell stories.
Our yearly trips will probably end soon now that a lot of us have kids and more responsibilities than ever. That’ll never stop us being as close, though. We’ll always find a way to connect even if it isn’t’ as often.

Life After Death $6.59 The King of Brooklyn, Biggie Smalls, busted through with an instant hip-hop classic on his first album, Ready to Die, but he outdid even his standard on Life After Death, an audible, posthumous autobiography about the life of the former dope dealer. The 2 CD set revels in death, especially on “Niggaz Bleed,” “Somebody’s Gotta Die,” and “You’re Nobody (‘Til Somebody Kills You),” but it’s painfully … |

Death Camps [VHS] $13.00 This is the official film documentary recorded by the United States Army of the Nazi Death Camps as Allied forces advanced into Germany. Although by then the fires in the Third Reich’s crematoria had been reduced to smoldering ash, the remaining evidence was so unspeakably horrible that were it not for this documentary, the mind would refuse it. We are made witness to the half-dead prisoners, vi… |
