Koreans got disqualified for allegedly making contact of the blades. Korean girl’s left skate blade touched chinese girl’s right skate blade. In my view, it was the wrong decision for reasons below.
1. Both girls approached the corner at the same time but Korean girl clearly had the inside lane and leaned over and took the corner first (evidence that she’s keeping to her path and not impeding)
2. A skater’s natural motion when going into a fast turn is to lay down the left hand on the ice, propel with the right arm and alternate the skates (feet). Chinese girl who was on the outside lane and behind as they started the turn was dangerously close to the Korean, this is at her own risk.
3. In the Korean girl’s natural motion of skating, blades touched and in this instance, Chinese girl would lose the balance as she was already leaning in and the push of the Korean girl’s blade would naturally applies an outward force to the Chinese. She wobbled and veered off the course a bit and had to readjust. Korean girl’s rightelbow seemed high on the chinese girl’s face, but i don’t believe there was any contact. However, the wobble was caused by the touch of the blades then maybe as she was slipping could have ploughed her face into the korean girl’s elbow.
4. the pass is deemed made when you overtake and make the turn first. Korea overtook and leaned for the turn on the inside first.
