Colombia Shooting
Which DSLR? CCD or CMOS?
So, I am going to make the change from point-and-shoot to DSLR. I now own a Nikon Coolpix P80 w/ 18x zoom (so its like bridge camera). But I like photography and I will be traveling to British Colombia.
Now, I’ve been reviewing Nikon and Canon. The Nikon D40, D40x, D60 all look impressive, and have a CCD sensor. The Canon Rebel XS has a CMOS sensor. So which sensor is better? And which camera would be the better choice?
I prefer these two brands (and because of the SD card) but if there are other suggestions, i’m listening.
There’s little difference between CCD and CMOS these days. CCD will be a bit better, but you probably won’t notice. You can check the following site for information regarding “sensor” noise and compare cameras side by side.

I quoted “sensor” because the dxomark site only compares RAW sensor performance. You will find that the camera processing will have more to do with noise and detail quality than the sensor on any of the cameras you are looking at.
Look at various review sites of photos in controlled situations. High ISO and low light situations will show the differences between the various cameras.
