Duke’s Pearls: Bernard and Doris star stuns the red carpet at the Golden Globes
The Golden Globes were back with a bang Sunday night after taking the year off in 2008. To many, the question of who was wearing what was just as interesting as the award ceremony itself. But in amongst the dazzling gowns and sparkling diamonds, perennial Hollywood icon Susan Sarandon caught my eye with her stylish and sophisticated long pearl necklace, made by New York boutique designer Fred Leighton. Sarandon pouted that she would have to return the stunning piece after the awards and cheekily asked Fred on camera if she could keep it.Well wouldn’t you? Her 32″ string looked both modern and elegant around her neck.
You might say that the fact that Sarandon, still stunning at 62, was the only A-list celebrity at the Globes to be wearing pearls, means that we’re going back to the days of pearls being the jewels of choice for the “older” woman?On the contrary! Pearl jewellery has a timeless elegance and charm if you know how to wear it.
