Canton Ohio

What are the requirements for electrician cerification in Canton, Ohio?
Would like to become a cerified electrician, and i live in Canton, Ohio. What are the requirements?
You must hold a state license do Electrical, HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, or Hydronics work in Ohio.
If you join an electrical apprenticeship (such as through IBEW Local 540) they will enroll you in classes and help you meet all the requirements for your area, including classroom education and on the job training. Their hiring hall will even help you find a new job once your last job has ended, and after a career as a union electrician you will enjoy a Pension (which is almost impossible to find in most fields these days.)
It is possible to become an electrician some other way besides joining a union apprenticeship, however you will still need to meet all the state and local requirements and you will be on your own to find and fund a trade school that will cost almost what a regular college could cost. You will also be on your own to find an employer who may or may not keep you a long time, or pay you well, or offer you benefits.
The electrical field can provide you an excellent career.
Right now all of the construction trades are hurting pretty bad because of the economy, so if you apply to get into a union apprenticeship program but are not accepted right away, do NOT be discouraged. The economy WILL rebound and there is not a single city in the United States that will ever stop needing electricians.
Below is the link to the JATC (Joint Apprentice Training Committee) for Canton Ohio. Go on their site to find out how to apply. I recommend applying for the “Inside Wireman” program. Not the residential or sound or installer programs. The “Inside Wireman” program is the real deal and the other classifications are sort of “partial” programs… they don’t make you learn as much to finish, but they also pay you a lot less. Go for Inside Wireman.
Good luck, and always work safe!
