History of Heart Disease – Cardiovascular Care is Easy

Overview Of The History Of Heart Disease

The history of heart disease contains some quite interesting facts. We have a much better understanding of cardiovascular disease and how to keep a healthy heart… then our ancestors did.

Far back in time to ancient Egypt records have been found talking about the importance of the heart. We have need today in this world to be concerned about getting heart disease, as the research on the history of heart disease shows.

It was known back then that the heart was very vital to the health of the body. They also believed the heart had a metaphysical significance in one’s life. Similar thoughts to some degree, about the heart, exist between the ancient Egyptian’s and the Far East.

Ancient Egypt’s Beliefs About The Heart

These ancient Egyptian archaeological discoveries tell us that they believed the seat of personality and of human wisdom originates in the heart. A very common thought among the Egyptian medical field was that the heart had conduits or channels leading from the heart… to locations within the body. The transmission of fluids of the body such as blood, saliva, and air, was made possible by these pathways. The belief was that a blockage of a channel would bring on disease of the body.

A common belief back then was human awareness, soul, and emotions… all had their nucleus in the heart. Even in these modern times we use the heart to describe feelings and emotions in song and poetry. Back then it was commonly thought God spoke to us by means of our heart. It has been said many times, “She has a broken heart”. Most certainly the ancient Egyptians stand out as a unique culture in our history books.

History Of Heart Disease And The Middle Ages

Research on the history of heart disease of the English speaking people in the middle ages, indicate they did not have much disease caused by cholesterol. The Briton’s in the middle ages also had few occurrences of heart disease. Fatty compounds in the foods they ate, were not common. Also foods such as vegetables, were allowed to grow and mature naturally without man’s interference by spraying of chemicals like herbicides on the vegetables.

The Modern Age And Cardiovascular Disease

In pre-industrial times, medical research on the history of heart disease, tells us that most people did not suffer from heart ailments and subsequent death from cardiovascular disease.

The industrial revolution started in the 19th century. Heart illness incidence rates increased also in the 1800′s. The not so positive thing about modern technology is that there is less need for manual labour. Many of our ancestors careers involved physical work and this helped to keep the heart and lungs strong. Another related bonus of having to do physical work, is the break down of fatty accumulations in the heart and other areas of the body.

The Modern Age And Diet

As we all know nowadays, the foods we eat play a huge role in the possibility of whether or not we will have any cardiovascular ailments. Foods that contain high levels of salt and trans fatty acids are not healthy for the heart. Many of us love and enjoy deep-fried greasy food such as burgers and fries; however, we know these types of foods contribute to cardiovascular disease. Additives and preservatives found in canned foods are not natural and could have adverse health reactions. Foods that are unprocessed are as a rule more nutritious than processed foods. If you want longevity, eat well and exercise often, perhaps then… we may not become a statistic in the books of the future of the history of heart disease.
