Ancient Greece

Explore Ancient Greece In The Modern Day
Although Greece is a modern country, its ancient roots are still clearly visible. Visitors to Greece can step back in time to the early days of democracy by touring Greece’s ancient sites. Package holidays to Greece can be customized so that you see the sights and cities you truly want to see. You could start your trip in Athens with a visit to the Parthenon, one of the best preserved ancient temples in the world. Although the temple complex is currently undergoing restoration, the site is still open to the public. After visiting the temple, make sure you leave time to enjoy some of Athens’ more modern offerings, such as upscale shopping. If you visit during the summer, the Glyfada area right outside Athens has some beautiful public beaches. Glyfada is also an excellent place to stay if you want to avoid hotels in the city center. Public transportation in Athens is inexpensive and easy to navigate.
Of course, Greece has much more to offer than just its capital city. If you are a history buff, make sure you stop in Delphi, home to the ruins of the Temple of Apollo. This temple was once the center of the ancient world. Even now, when you stand among the majestic Greek mountains, it is easy to see why the ancients believe a god lived in this place. Make sure you leave time to explore the Delphi archeological museum, where you can see some of the statuary that was unearthed by the temple’s first archeologists. Accommodations are available in the modern village of Delphi, which is adjacent to the ruins. Because of its location on the side of a mountain, the hotels in this village are small, but comfortable.
Of course, no trip to Greece would be complete without a trip to the Greek islands. There are many cruise lines that offer affordable passage to Mykonos, Santorini, and other scenic islands. Many package holidays to Greece include a cruise, so this is an option you should consider when planning your vacation to Greece. If you can, schedule your cruise for the very last part of your trip. After visiting all of Greece’s amazing ruins, you will welcome the chance to relax.
